Cambodia

Casinos are a multi-million dollar industry in Cambodia. The largest amount of casinos are located in Siem Reap and are often frequented by visitors from neighbouring countries like Thailand, China, and other areas where gambling is banned. There are over 200 gambling locations in Cambodia and 50 licensed casinos.

Gambling centres in Cambodia are fairly small, with the exception of Naga casino. Most centres will provide free drinks and food, along with offering cigarettes and alcohol. Many casinos also have integrated resorts where gamblers can stay. These areas may have swimming pools, high-end restaurants, and several other attractions.

Naga Casino

NagaCorp was founded in 1995 and owned by Chen Lip Keong, a Malaysian tycoon who also serves as an economic advisor for the prime minister of Cambodia. Stepping into Naga is an amazing experience since it is such a stark contrast from the dirty and dusty streets of Phnom Penh. The interior is glitzy paradise and has all you could ask for a high-roller casino.

Interestingly enough, you will not see any Cambodians in Naga. This is because the locals are not allowed in Cambodian casinos. Malaysians are also forbidden since Islam does not permit gambling. Most of the guests at Naga consist of Eurasians, Chinese, Thais, and Indians.

Slot Machines

Recently, the government has called on all slot machines to be removed at entertainment clubs. However, they will still be permitted at licensed casinos and hotels.  Additionally, the locals are not permitted to use the slot machines.

Conclusion

Gambling in Cambodia can be a fun and exotic experience. Granted, it may not be as spectacular as Vegas, but it is also far cheaper and is rapidly improving in the entertainment industry. Just recently, a Cambodian tycoon announced plans to launch a $100 million casino near the border of Vietnam with hopes to attract visitors from all over the world.
